Creating a well balanced diet is crucial for anyone, but especially those with MS. A balanced diet consists of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, and lots of water.

A balanced diet for a person with MS consists of:

- Omega-3's: includes fish such as salmon, herring, tuna

- Lean meats such as turkey or chicken

- Beans, lentils, soy, nuts

- Fruits and vegetables, at least 5 per day

- Whole grains

People with MS should lean towards foods, supplements, and drinks that have anti-inflammatory properties. Before trying anything new however, a person with MS should always run it by their doctor first to make sure it won't have any negative affects.

Foods to Avoid with MS:

- Foods high in saturated fats, such as red meat, butter, cheese, and full dairy products

- Caffeine and alcohol consumed in moderation

"A healthy immune system equals a healthy body."
